OpenAI officially entered the hardware business with Codex Micro, a $230 programmable keyboard built specifically for working with its Codex agent. It may not be the mysterious Jony Ive device everyone is waiting for, but it is another sign that AI is moving beyond the chat window and becoming part of how we physically work.
OpenAI also appears to have made Anthropic blink. After repeatedly extending access to Claude Fable 5, Anthropic has now confirmed that the model will remain included in its Max and Team Premium plans beginning July 20. Competition has a funny way of turning temporary promotions into permanent product plans.
Then China stole the ending. Moonshot AI released Kimi K3, a massive open-weight model that surprised the industry and jumped ahead of both Claude and OpenAI’s models on Arena’s Frontend Code leaderboard late Friday. It does not lead the overall rankings, but the fact that an open model can win an important coding category should have every major AI company paying attention.
The AI race is no longer one company chasing another. Everyone is chasing everyone, and the leaderboard can change before the weekend is over.
